A very recent setting is not something I usually gravitate towards because I find modern references take me out of the story. The characters in this book though!! Completely had me invested despite the odd reference to the real world 😅
The whole book happens in one day and you follow two people's lives on the brink of life changing decisions that come with a looooot of baggage. It's about love and loss and fitting into a world that wants everyone to be the same while you don't quite qualify for the status quo.
Pen is on the autistic spectrum and Ruth is dealing with infertility so there are a lot of trigger warnings associated with this one. It is so beautifully human and I just couldn't put it down!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 4 stars because I think it is clear that the author is not autistic and sometimes the way she writes Pen is a bit clumsy but over all I loved the book
