The prose is really great. It evokes a lot of emotion and feeling, and made for a very sincere and compelling one sitting read. It's an awesome little novella. Characters finding their way through the bleak world was oddly satisfying. It is really all about the writing. I do think the story arcs and characters were well done, but if you aren't into the novella format this probably wouldn't change your mind. If you are looking for a novella to try, this is a good one to give a chance to. It's fast paced and easy to read, and not weird and out there like some novellas can be. Worth the time and fits a lot of good stuff into the short length.

This is dark and dreamlike, and Mohammed at no point condescends to explain to the reader any details that the viewpoint character takes as read. It is a bloody and nasty dystopia, with the ultra wealthy beyond the law, and no law at all that helps the many poverty stricken individuals.

This is the kind of dystopia I want to read. Where it is the people who drive the story, not their poverty, their desperation, the dark and terrible things that happen to them.

Oof! Such a short novella that packs in SO much goodness. I love when books aren’t a word longer than they need to be. I loved everything about this one—the story, the characters, the subtle worldbuilding and visceral atmosphere, the writing style, the philosophy—it was an easy five-star read for me. I’m always here for a good speculative fic story that champions community-first values and anti-capitalist sentiments while incorporating a good revenge story in there for good measure. Highly recommended! And it’s short so what do you have to lose. 😉
