Saint Odd's ending has given me mixed feeling. I loved and hated the ending, it left you thinking about all you've read up until and and also something to try and think about in your life. On the other hand the climax felt rushed, you have a great buildup that leads to a declining final act that seemed dragged out. The opening act so to speak is full of intrigue and introduces new characters I hope to see as cameos in later books. Odd himself is still growing as a person through the book which is great, it shows he's not just a character to finish off. I'm sad to see the series end, I've been reading the novels since the release of Odd Thomas.

Saint Odd is a fitting finale in the Odd series. The beginning takes a bit to get going and by that, I mean, I could stop at a chapter break and go to bed. In some of the earlier books, I was locked from the very first chapter. Maybe it was because I knew it was the last book and I wanted to take my time.

With that being said, I felt that the final book wrapped up Odd's story in logical way. I didn't feel cheated. Endings can be heard, and Koontz did a good job keeping true to the arc of Odd's story.

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with the Odd Thomas series since the very first book. Come to think of it, I have much the same thoughts regarding its author. Dean Koontz is hit or miss for me and I’ve felt these Odd Thomas books have also been like that. And so I guess it is appropriate that I come down exactly in the middle on this series finale as well.

By now readers know what to expect from Odd. He is a wonderful character, full of humility, never really wanting to be anything more than a fry cook from the town of Pico Mundo, California. He is gifted in several supernatural ways and since the beginning of the series has been resolved to his destiny. I love his attitude toward life and his casual observations of human nature, especially his rather poignant understanding of what makes people tick. It’s something you might expect from a senior citizen who has lived a long life, rather than a young twenty-something. But I also grow weary of Odd’s lengthy introspective analyses and constantly find myself impatient to get back to some actual plot.

This is the concluding volume of the series and given the title, it is pretty clear where we are headed. Odd’s two year journey, detailed over seven books, finally winds down back where it started. I was happy to see his return to Pico Mundo and also happy to see many previous characters make an appearance, even if some of them were only cameos. But in the end, I was mostly disappointed. There have been lingering questions throughout this series…things like who is Annamaria? Who is Edie Fischer? What does the Amaranth flower mean? I could go on and on but, unfortunately, the answers I was seeking were either uninspired or not even provided. The ending was well done, however. My fears for poor Odd Thomas proved unnecessary as it all does come full circle in a rewarding and even uplifting ending.

Though the books in between often felt muddled or misguided, this final book is a fitting bookend to the first where we met and were charmed by Mr. Odd Thomas.
