This gave me Nevermoor vibes, but the magic reminded me of Pocket Full of Murder and those two are two of my favorite middle grades. The narrator did a really good job and I liked the orchestra that they added. It was a very nice touch to the overall feel of the book. It did get a bit corny in some parts, mainly at the end, but it is a kid's book so I'll forgive it for not having some complex plot/answer to the mystery. Overall I really liked this and I loved the music magic and the characters. If you like Pocket Full of Murder or Nevermoor, you should definitely give this one a try!

I listened to this book with my 6 y/o daughter and we both enjoyed it very much. The story itself dealt with some tough topics (death, loss, confidence or lack thereof, perseverance) but in a way that was accessible and not scary for my daughter. I love when a book can engage both of us and we can then talk about it later together.

My 7 year old and I listened to the audio version and we both loved it so much! The writing was great, the background music was subtle but did add fun to the story, and the narrator was superb. We are slowly making our way through the rest of the series :)

This was so delightful!

This contemporary fantasy reimagines our world if magic was derived from music, and I loved getting to see the details of how everything worked. What type of music was better for which type of magic, what went into playing a spell and learning them to begin with, how things of our modern world would have been adapted to utilize musicraft. The magical school setting did not disappoint either.

The characters and plot were nothing really original, but were executed really well. There were lovable characters I could root for, conflicts that were understandable, and friendships that were wholesome. A big theme of the book is imposter syndrome, and trying to prove yourself to others, and I found I could really empathize with the characters emotions and motivations. The story is quite predictable, but the way the journey is written just made for a charming experience that I highly enjoyed.

(Also definitely check out the audiobook because the music is spectacular!)
