This book would be better had it focused more exclusively on the Krieg Civil War, but regardless it is still a satisfying read. Good action and a well written ending makes this worth reading for any fan of the 41st millenia

The book describes the Death Korps of Krieg very well, it is always a joy they have a dialogue with other characters or when we read about colonel Jurten's thoughts and interactions. It is also interesting to learn about the regiment's origins, especially if you haven't heard the story before.
However, for me, it seemed that the book missed some opportunities that could have made the overall story much more enjoyable but instead provided underwhelming conclusions, like in the case of the introduction and development of Jurten's daughter, or when it comes to the moral dilemma at the end of the book regarding the future of hive Arathron.
Overall, I think it is a worthwhile read for any fan of the Death Korps or people who enjoy a little contemplation regarding the usage of nuclear weapons, with a lot of action scenes to spice things up. For people who are not that interested in Astra Militarum novels, this one may not be worth your time.

I enjoyed reading the full origins of Krieg and the death korps as well as views on them from Cadians and the the inquisition but I felt the story set in modern day wasn’t as enjoyable as I the other perspective.
