First Thought When Finished: What a nostalgic trip back into time. Nancy Drew was a big part of why I fell in love with reading in the first place!

What I Thought of the Case: The Secret of the Old Clock is the first in a long line of Nancy Drew cases. If you have never read a Nancy Drew book (what are you waiting for?) here is what you need to know: the cases are pretty straight-forward and knowledge truly is power! Nancy Drew was probably the first "girl" lead that I remember being super smart, sweet, and wasn't in it for the boys. She was 18 and really making her mark on the world. Most of the cases come from helping her father at his law practice and her sense to do what is right! It is her sense of right/wrong that plays into the case of the Old Clock! She ends up helping a family that would have no avenue otherwise and the story is one grand adventure!

What I Thought of the Characters: Nancy Drew is a great role model for young women! She is smart, independent, loves her family, and has an amazing sense of what is right/wrong. She has a great ability to work with other people and always tries to find the truth. The rest of the characters are great too! Carolyn Keene writes really well-rounded characters that display all aspects of humanity. These are great books for Middle Graders and are fun to boot. I really enjoyed reconnecting with the characters from my childhood!

Final Thought: Nancy Drew was a refreshing blast from my past and I loved revisiting her world!

Here’s the thing… as a kid, I remember checking this book out from the school library and I distinctly remember that there was a boy in my class who made fun of me for checking it out and having it. I also remember immediately returning it. That Christmas my mom got my a sweater that said WWNDD- What would Nancy drew do? Because she had remembered me having the book and thought I liked it. Instead of telling her what had happened, I lied and said I didn’t like the sweater and I didn’t like the book. I honestly think about that moment a lot. SO, I’m an attempt to reconnect with my inner child or heal some trauma or whatever, I decided to pick this one up. And you know what? It was good. I enjoyed reading it and I’m sad that my younger self didn’t get to experience this book or the rest of the series. I’ve got the next one set up on my Libby app as well as some other books that I was discouraged from reading for different reasons. Time to heal some of those bad memories with some children’s classics. ❤️

I think I am asking too much of a close to 100 year old book. But I was just waiting for some higher stakes. Dark grisly mystery. But no ha I got an incredibly wholesome story.
I was supposed to finish this book with my daughter almost a year ago and I have finally sat down and finished it. Mostly to get it off my current reading list.
I think for back when this came out it was probably actually pretty thrilling. I definitely wouldn't mind an updated version of this series. I'm sure there is one actually out there already.
Have you read this? Tell me about your experience? Your childhood?? This one was not part of mine but I know a lot of folks who really enjoyed these books.

Not bad for the first one in a series. I know as the series goes on we meet long stay characters and plots get thicker and more fun so I look forward to that as I slowly read through my flashlight editions. It’s definitely a nice break between my heavier series given the content and the age it is technically made for. But I enjoyed it either way.

A nostalgic read of The Hardy Boys #1, The Tower Treasure led me to read this…honestly, a better story.

This was a book my mom once enjoyed. I can understand the appeal this book has had over the years. Nancy is certainly a wholesome heroine. I liked most of her interactions with other characters and her determination. The mystery wasn't hard to figure out though and some chapters dragged on too long.
