Was this book necessary? No. Was it cute? I guess. In terms of writing I had the same problems as the first one: a lot of summary, a lot of passive language, I was told a lot of things that I wish I would've seen play out instead. This style of writing is fine on a fairytale or something more akin to a short story or a novella, but 500 pages of it? Sometimes I felt like I was reading the Wikipedia summary instead of the book itself. In terms of the story itself, it felt like more or less the same thing as the first book. I didn't really find much development of the characters beyond the people they already were at the end of book one. And truth be told, I felt like the writing style prevented me from actually connecting with the characters.

This was not even near as good as East. It felt very repetitive and unnecessary. Liked that it was a fast read though.

It was an interesting way to do the sequel. I was curious where they could go from the end of the first book and they sure did find a way to go! Some of it I really liked, the part about her weaving the cloaks in particular. Some of it I was like “ehh, I don’t know about that”. The wind character was an interesting addition. Overall worth the read.

This one was much more difficult to get into than the first. I’m glad I read it instead of listening - that would not have gone well with all the different viewpoints.
This was very slow to start... I must have flipped between finishing and stopping a significant number of times in the first 200 pages. After that, things did pick up, and rather quickly!
I still love that this is an adventure story that is a clean read. There are some pretty challenging topics in the areas of death, forgiveness, and humility; but overall great for a young teen.
