Entering my reviews over from my old Goodreads profile I unearthed recently...here are some super sappy thoughts from 2009-era 14-year-old Claire!

These books get longer and longer, and I love them still.

It's hard to dislike a single installment in a series you otherwise enjoy. And I'm not saying I disliked this book, but it was my least favorite so far. I found that I was dragging my feet to get through some of the really dense expositions. I'm sorry I just do not care about the details of dwarf politics. While learning the procedures and culture helps contextualize the population's decisions and behaviors as a whole, I feel I could have learned what I needed to in a quarter of the pages.

I also find it harder to suspend my disbelief as I read more about Roran's triumphs. When I read about the elves' immortality, speed, and strength, and the Riders' ability to gain strength from their dragon, it's hard to believe Roran can compete in this world, let alone become one of the most famous and deadly warriors as a human.

I maintain my stance that Angela is the best character in the entire series. I don't even care if she's secretly important or if she is just the eccentric herbalist; she's the best. Full stop.

A pretty decent book however I felt the pacing was slightly off and there are some contradicting plot points.Ends on a nice point definitely leaving the reader eager for more

while I loved the first two books of this series, this one was so boring and such a drag to get through, I can’t give it more stars. it seemed to me like nothing much happened here because everyone was just talking and talking and the same plot points from eldest were used here: a ruler dies, gotta find a new one, oh the drama! eragon saves the day. it felt so schematic and lifeless that I was simply bored by the end of it and even the ending didn’t make me much excited for the rest. I seriously hope that inheritance will pick up the pace somewhat and be smarter about some plot choices, because I’d hate to see a good series fail so miserably.
