Ever since the first book, I can only imagine lark as being a POC with pretty black curly hair. I dont know why. I can’t see her being blonde with blue eyes. Anyway….
Almost DNF this book multiple times. The plot wasn’t really there. The “romance” was Meh. The spice was alright.

First book was better. I wouldn’t recommend this one to a friend.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Writing: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes, etc: Contract Killer/Serial Killer, Enemies to Lovers, Marriage of Convenience, Grumpy/Sunshine, Groveling
POV: Dual, 1st Person
3rd Act Breakup?: No
Cliffhanger?: Yes
Song Association: I, Carrion (Icarian) by Hozier

Notable Quote: Lark comes to my side, her palm held aloft. I lay the weapon onto her waiting hand. She doesn’t tremble. Doesn’t waver. There’s no fear in her voice when she says, “Enjoy hell, Dr. Campbell. Tell the devil that the Kanes send their regards.”

The Praise: I really liked this! Lachlan and Lark were so sweet together and I loved how genuine Lachlan was about earning Lark’s forgiveness. I also really liked Ethel and the bond she shared with Lark.

The Critique: I will die on the hill that an epilogue should be about the main couple! I definitely want like a bonus scene of Rose and Fionn, I just would also like more of Lachlan and Lark.

Final Thoughts: This was really great! I love Brynne Weaver’s writing and this was no exception.

Lachlan Kane the man that he is. I love a hard mysterious man slowly being broken down by a strong female lead. Lark knows what she needs to do and is constantly a brave and unrelenting force.

I want to give this more than 5 stars, just like Butcher & Blackbird! I can’t wait for the third one next year! These characters are so weirdly livable and relatable (minus certain hobbies ;) ).

I was going to give this 3 stars bc I was lowkey bored listening to it. I also hated the incessant "giggling" and I almost DNF'd bc of it.

Upping to 4 stars bc of the bonus scene at the end
