An enjoyable PI story with a paranormal twist. The first person narration was very good, giving us a brief insight into an exciting character. There are just the right amount of hints to Wake's dark and mysterious nature to keep the reader invested. And the author does a great job of enticing us with small details about the larger paranormal world, The Shadow World.
The ending did seem a little abrupt. I think the author was trying to be subtle, hinting at Wake's monstrous side without wanting to be too overt. But it would have been the icing on the cake to have a nice little action scene right at the end.
That being said, I did find it very enjoyable and I'm more than ready to read more about this dark and mysterious world, and its equally dark and mysterious anti-hero.
