Viking-inspired, bloody battles, a badass heroine. This book is devastating & remarkable. I absolutely devoured every single second of it and will definitely have to re-read in the future. (The narrator was perfect!)

Can I give this book 6 stars??

Yes, it's that good!

I really enjoy fantasy novels, and this one uses Norse mythology to interweave issues between two tribes who must eventually come to a truce to save everyone.

And just who must change everyone's minds?? Eelyn, the strong, female protagonist, of course!!

At the beginning of the book, Eelyn is fierce in battle, but once she's captured, her fierce mental agility is challenged, and she has to make decisions the battle Eelyn would never allow.

Plus, there's some major family drama when Eelyn sees her believed-to-be dead brother fighting for her enemy.

Dun-dun-dun...D-R-A-M-A!

As much as I LOVED this novel, it's important to note that not all readers will. My favorite genre is fantasy, so this book was perfect for me. However, I know a few people who wouldn't care for the novel because they are not interested in the genre.

RATED: 5 Stars

NOTE: I received a autographed copy of *Sky in the Deep* in my May OwlCrate box, and did not receive any compensation for this review.

ARC provided by publisher and NetGalley for free, but this does not influence my review.

Right out of the gate this book grabs you and pulls you in. The action and adventure, in the beginning, had me cheering for the Aska to slay all the Riki as they are mortal enemies. I wasn't expecting the story to unfold the way it did.

We follow the tale of Eelyn who while battling for her way of life, her people, and her pride. Everything is as it should be until during a battle she spots what she believes is her brother fighting alongside their mortal enemies. While investigating she is kidnapped by the Riki and what ensues is a tale of loyalty, faith, and with some romance.

Vikings, kick-butt female, and a little romance had me wishing there was more when the story ended. I am very much looking forward to owning this one in print.

My 3 star rating and review is based solely on personal preference. I thought I was going to enjoy this book a lot. The first chapter had already reeled me in. But after a few chapters I was so bored that I switched to the audiobook version. It still dragged on so much for me. In the end I’m still not sure what the plot really was. I don’t feel like anything really happened. It had an interesting trope based of the description but again I just don’t feel like anything really happened. I was kind of like watching a reality tv show for Vikings. And I have also come to the conclusion that I don’t enjoy Viking based books. I don’t mind when there’s flashbacks to Viking times but it just apparenlty is not an era that holds my attention or interests.

I love the pace of this book. An interesting storyline with a strong female character. Adrienne Young is one of my favorite YA authors. I’ve not been disappointed in any book she’s written—they have all been worth my time to dive into a new world!
