I’m teetering between a 4/5 and a 5/5. This book is focused on conformity and sexuality. Evelyn uses her sexuality and sensuality as a woman to her advantage to get what she wants while simultaneously hiding her queer identity to fit in with the periods strict conformity & homophobia. It was liberating to see how TJR writes about Evelyn and sexuality; Evelyn feels so real and human. This book is definitely character driven. Although the book seemingly centers around love and romance, it’s mostly about Evelyn’s journey with her career, identity, and sexuality. I was initially hesitant to read this book because of all the hype and I do believe that it is a little overhyped on TikTok. That said, I found the book easy to read and hard to put down. The reason why it took me so long to finish reading it was because I was scared how the book was gonna end and because if I don’t finish a book in a few days then I’ll never finish it. Even though I rated it 5/5 stars, I don’t think I’d put it in my top 5. The writing style is direct yet beautiful, which I’m usually not the biggest fan of since I’m all for flowery language. Overall, I found this book very captivating, beautiful and, most of all, touching. Definitely worth the read.

This was a fun read and my first book of the month! Would have gotten through it quicker with more dedicated time for reading. A good summer beach read if you need one.
