A beautiful book that is a work of art in itself. The photographic print comes in a black portfolio, and the book and portfolio are in a gorgeous black case. Even the cardboard Taschen box is attractive!
The appeal of Gibson's nudes, other than some very intriguing compositions, is the lack of airbrushing. There are wrinkles, stretch marks, freckles, underwear and jumper marks. Gibson doesn't seem to have one 'type' that he photographs - there are young and old, brunettes, blondes and red heads. While some may judge his work as impersonal, to this admirer it is more that he uses the women as works of art, rather than attempting portraits that depict the individuals. And yet through this process he often delivers startling insights into the women he photographs and the essence of feminine beauty itself.
And the inclusion of photographs of statues in a book of nudes is an interesting (and humorous!) way of looking at the concept of the female nude.
