I absolutely adored this book. I don’t think I’ve been enthralled in a story in such a long time! Once I passed the halfway mark, I couldn’t stop thinking about it during the day, wishing I had took it to work with me to read.

Rachel is insufferable. She’s rude and horrible and delusional. But she’s also incredibly funny, warm and sensitive. I loved her.

This book is beautifully written, and has been incredibly well researched. It lays the groundwork very early on concerning other mental health issues beyond addiction. The subtle hints were so clever, they made you think “ah!” whenever something was revealed later in the story.

The ending was a bit fluffy and the last few pages felt very rushed, which was a shame after such a juicy, detailed story. But not enough to take a star off.

Thoroughly enjoyed and I will be tracking down the others in the series too.

This one was interesting because once again, this is a chick-lit story where the main character annoyed the hell out of me with her stupid antics and low self esteem, and usually that is unforgiveable for chick-lit for me, but this one was different. This was a well told story of addiction and recovery, and as much as I hated reading about Rachel's past, it was an accurate portrayal of an addict. I have a very close family member who went through this at a young age, and for the most part, Keyes was spot on for how an addict can act. I still don't like chick-lit books starring a low-self esteem young woman doing stupid things because she feels so poorly about herself, but the book was saved from one-star land because of its accurate portrayal of addiction.

For me this was a book that was the victim of too high expectations. I thought this was going to be a fun romp, and while there was elements of humor, it was a far more emotional tale of addressing one’s own personal baggage and issues. If I had read it with the right mindset going in I would have enjoyed it more. Although as a therapist I cringe at some of the clinically questionable practices used.

Love Marian Keyes and love this book. It's very close to perfect. The characters are flawed but lovable, there are twists and turns, it's sad but also happy... Amazing.
