Alright, this book did drag somewhat even more than the previous ones, especially in the middle while also having much less action than usual overall. But if you are like me who loves this world and doesn't really hate the characters so much that you don't want to read about them at all, which I know is probably asking for a lot as most of them can be wool-headed idiots, I still found it interesting enough. But then again, I'm definitely biased and have become too used to Jordan's vivid descriptions about people's appearance or the architecture in general. I found Path of Daggers to be more captivating and solid comparatively, but Winter's heart does have its moments, especially the amazing ending which is on par with Lord of Chaos for me. Regardless of how slow it has gotten so far, I'm leaning towards the 'there is no slog!' camp while bracing myself to read Crossroads of Twilight, which is supposedly the slowest one in the series so far.

Reading this book was a bit frustrating for me. I knew the whole time that I was missing key information that will likely only make sense later or upon reread. I don’t usually mind that but it felt like the entire book was filled with these moments meant for later or for a reread and left me with little to latch on to as a first time reader. That said the final 1/4 of the book was great and seeing the stakes raised once again was satisfying. I definitely feel like this book has the potential to become one I love upon reread because I’m a sucker for storytelling breadcrumbs. I know I’m going to have a blast putting this all together once I’m come back to it.
