Well. Certainly not the "feel-good" book of 2010, but an interesting read. Once I got into it, I couldn't not finish it, but I can't say that I truly liked it.

Evoked Jonathan Franzen and David Gates at times, particularly the black humor (which I'm a sucker for). Along with Wells Tower, this guy is one of my favorite discoveries of the past six months. Looking forward to what he has up his sleeve next.

Bleak, but somehow not that bleak. I was engaged by the characters and their endings all seemed authentic.

One of THE best books !
All the emotions came out on this one … loved how raw and real it was. And the character development of every single character was outstanding.

Loved this book! I was a bit apprehensive before I started that I wasn't going to like it and fell in love with it quickly. So much so that I finished it in one afternoon sitting. Tragedy, dark humor and sarcasm....definitely worth a read!

Note to CC--when you told me this book was "not depressing" I thought I would not be... ahhh... DEPRESSING. I think it could be an accurate portrayal of a family that is on the verge of total disconnect. Maybe a glimmer of hope at the end but really, I can't recommend this book. Sorry CC. It was bleak and harsh.

Most people gave this book a lower review because it was depressing. Well, it IS kind of depressing, but I'm glad the author didn't slap on a happy ending or something, because that would have been totally unrealistic. This book is about relatively good people who are making bad mistakes, and then trying to hide them, therefore making bigger mistakes. It just gets worse and worse, like watching a train wreck in slow motion. But the characters are well drawn and interesting. I felt for them, even though they were hot messes. So - even though depressing, I enjoyed this book from a very talented writer.

I liked this more than I expected. I can't say I liked the characters very much and the story was kind of depressing, but it was well written and drew me in.
