To be honest, I started disliking this book after the first 20 pages but I told myself not be so narrow-minded, that's why I kept reading.
I didn't like Abby, mostly because I didn't understand her .. or the way she saw herself. The story was okay-ish tho it felt kinda rushed and there were some things that I couldnt wrap my mind around. Other things were too predictable, like Tess' and Claire's relationship. Eli was way too ... unbelievable IMO. And I'm talking about his looks not his neurosis (is this the right word? I don't know enough about this). I would have liked it, if the book focused on just one "issue". Like Tess' difficulties with coming out or Abby's "lack of self-esteem". The story felt overall uncomplete and the main focus was just on that really weird love story between Abby & Eli.
And what about that ending? Did Tess wake up? What happened with Eli and his parents? Did they ever look after him? And what was with Abby's Dad and his brother? Did Abby manage to see that she's worth as much as her sister and stop self-pitying herself?
I'm unsatisfied and disappointed.

I found myself getting tired and frustrated with the needlessly airy writing and meaningless sentences littered throughout the story. It was a complete distraction from what was really going on. Between lines like "The inside of the porch is easier to look at than the vast, empty nothing of the night sky," there is an authentic story of a woman who didn't know how to be herself, who was afraid.
That's where this could have been good; unfortunately, it was buried.

Definitely not your typical sister-in-a-coma story.

Nice easy read that you can pick up and put down if you light new adult books. There were quite a few tough issues explored, though they weren't explored in detail so that's why the book felt like it just flitted on the surface of a deeper novel. Still enjoyable though.

This is the sort of Elizabeth Scott that I love and adore.
Abby has always lived in her older sister Tess' shadow. Abby has never been as good, as pretty, as popular, as happy, as anything. But all that is on the surface. It isn't until Tess is in a coma that Abby begins to realize she doesn't have to be in Tess' shadow, that she can be her own person and thrive in the sunlight.
