Short, helpful book to improve your writing. It has a lot of tips, suggestions, and advice. I felt like it was geared toward more of the academic side than the creative side, but they are related. The only reason I deducted a star is because I knew a lot of it already (I’ve read numerous books on writing and am getting a MFA in it). If you’re new to writing, I’d recommend this book!

Simple. Practical. Elegant.
I read this book for the first time and now it will make it to my bookshelf. I am sure I will thumb through it often.

When I finally sat down to read the book I finished it in one sitting, that is how easy it was to read. It was full of common sense information that you might think you know but you really don’t or at least need to focus on. The book also had some good sections that I will be referring back too from time to time.

**100 Ways to Improve Your Writing** by *Gary Provost* is from 1985 and has aged remarkably well. It's a set of rules, short and to the point. Some advice is dated and not relevant any longer – a couple of hints on how to acquire information and in which format to submit your work, mostly. Apart from that, the book talks about how to prepare for writing, how to structure texts, and goes down to details of grammar and punctuation. All of these things are well-structured, to the point, and come with plenty of examples and as much entertaining writing as you can fit in a paragraph or two per topic. I enjoyed the short form and the sensible advice – some of which is very common, but especially the sections on editing contained new advice for me.

A fairly quick audio book, Provost combines humor with teaching as he gives writing themed tips and advice. I appreciated the suggestions of books and websites like Vocabulary.com to help with writing and the narrator was very clear and easily understandable.
I would suggest to get this to use as a helper so you can jump to whatever writing problem you're having, rather that listening to it at double speed as I did.

Let's be fair: there's fairly nothing new here. But it's fine guidelines if you're new to writing, especially if you are academic writers (bcz I think it's more on that side).
It can be used for creative writers just fine, but let me tell you the only tip that works for a writer is: TO ACTUALLY WRITE IT DOWN FFS

Plenty of useful tips, and experienced writers will know which ones to ignore
