Loved this! Another favorite of 2023! Sonora is becoming an auto-buy author for me, love her writing. Re-read/listen to the audiobook of this one again for our bookclub discussion in Diversity is Lit. Here's my in-depth thoughts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2HHr5zKa-M

This book was better than The Lesbiana's Guide to Catholic School, which i already loved. Sonora Reyes does a really good job creating full and powerful characters who don't always trust themselves. I wanted good things for everyone in this book (besides, obviously, Luis Ortega).

This book offers so much - questioning sexuality and gender identity; recover from trauma; recognizing abuse and rape. As a survivor, yes victims struggle with the identifying the act of rape.
This author does an tremendous job showcasing a neurodivergent character - Ari struggles with functioning in public situations.
Ari goes to her first party - struggling with selective mutism, her parents are thrilled. She goes with a boy she trusts - even though her friend has warned her to stay away from Luis. Ari thinks she's just jealous - as they dated once upon a time.
A few days later, Ari is contacted by TLOSC - asked to join the group. Ari shows up - surprised to see people she knows. And accept her. Though she hides the truth, Ari wants Luis to pay for his abuse. His targeting and grooming isolated girls. Girls new to school. Girls surrounded by rumors. Girls who easy prey.
Well done.
Thank you for telling this story - it matters!

Thank you @epicreads for the #gifted ebook. It took me a while to get to it but I’m glad I finally did.

When Ariana gets raped at a party, she doesn't realize it was rape at first. She knows she didn't say yes, but she also didn't say no. Soon after, she comes into contact with The Luis Ortega Survival Club, who tells her she's not alone, and they might be able to figure out a way to get revenge.

This is the second novel I’ve read by Sonora Reyes. Both 5 star reads for me.

The Luis Ortega Survival Club is a tough story to read. It shows the reality of sexual assault and the feelings that come from it. I sadly can relate to the MC. That feeling when you realize that you were sexually assaulted is so impossible to describe. But somehow it took me back to that moment because they described it so well.

I saw this being compared to John Tucker Must Die and I completely agree, (but better). I love a good revenge story. I found myself rooting for the club more and more.

I loved all the members of the club. I wish that I could get a book about every single one.

Overall this was a fantastic book. It makes me sad that I have barely seen anyone talk about this. Books like this never get the recognition they deserve.

I loved the realness of this book — the author wrote really cool neurodivergent, queer characters that have a lot of heart and are struggling with very real issues.
