i love rebecca yarros with my whole heart and i will probably invest in every book of hers ever moving forward
, but i did find Leah hard to like at times, the use of the word "exquisite" was too much, the weird brother relationship between Brandon and Pax going back and forth of love to hate was hard to keep up with, and while i predicted the Rachel plot twist i did NOT see Brooke's villain era and felt like that was rushed.
That being said, i loved the Renegades and their found family. Having read the Fourth Wing series first, this book felt like a rinse and repeat with some of the romance aspects (minus the fantasy ofc), but I still found myself kicking my feet, laughing at the jokes, or blushing at the flirting. this book does a great job of addressing trauma and PTSD as well as a consensual relationship, which is major brownie points in my book. the action of the renegades keeps the story moving and on your toes. i'd read again, but docked it for the reasons mentioned above, the open door turning closed door romance once things started to get good, and that for being a study abroad program story, they never studied??? felt like some flirting scenes could've easily been incorporated with a few different study scenarios imo

I generally love the way Yarros writes the male protagonists in her books and this one was no exception. As a semi adrenaline junkie myself, it was a lot of fun to read about all the different stunts that took place in the book as well. I also loved the dynamic between Leah and Paxton.

Beware while reading this book. There are a few parts that are close to soft porn. I wish I had known before beginning.
