This was my first ever Nora Robert’s book and started my binge of her books. I adored this story and the character development so much.

DNF...ok, so as a dedicated Nora reader, I feel like I’m justified in the upcoming complaints. My mom and I have always had an informal book club regarding the newest release, but if we are being honest here, we both feel the quality of the stories have really gone downhill.

It started last year with Hideaway. Listen, I’m wordy and I appreciate backstory as much as the next person, but do we really need 150 pages of what essentially boils down to events before the actual story? Whatever happened to sprinkling in a character’s history without taking us step by step through years 7-27?

If the first section could be condensed to about 20 pages and added as character development, I would have enjoyed this a lot more. As it was I skimmed chapters 4-14 before pretty much giving up. I had a pretty good guess on who the stalker was, and turns out I was 100% right, so there was no reason to continue.

Obviously Nora is still a fav (I’ve actually been to the town where Boonsboro Inn is located) so this is more of a ta ta for now situation. But I just can’t do this one.

RATING: 2.5 STARS

Legacy felt a bit long, in that there seemed to be moments I was wondering why there was so much filler. The story and main character also reminds me a bit too much of her last novel. If you read mysteries at all, you will know who the stalker is as soon as they show up. It was the least interesting part of the novel. I did like the small town feel of the setting, where she was able to get her friends to basically move in as neighbours. I did finish the book, as I love January LaVoie who narrates Roberts novels. If you are new to Nora Roberts, please do not start with this one.

Sometimes you want to sink into a book where you know what to expect and for me, Nora Roberts romantic suspense stand-alone novels fall in that category. I don’t know the details but I know the overall feelings to expect and I’m here for it.

In Legacy, we have Adrian who has a fitness business - starting with her first workout videos while she was still in high school. And ever since those first videos she’s been getting threatening letters once a year in the form of poems.

After her grandmother’s death, she moves in with her grandfather and reconnects with friends in their town - including Raylan, her childhood best friend’s older brother. As Adrian settles into her new life, the letters start to come more frequently - perhaps this threat is more than she originally thought.

I didn’t always like Adrian - there are parts of her character that I found really annoying. But that also made her more real to me - she’s not a perfect person but who is? I liked seeing the ways she grew and changed through the book with her family and found family and Raylan.

Thank you to St Martin’s Press and Netgalley for the advance reading copy. I also got the audiobook from the library and highly recommend - the narration was great and kept me riveted to see what would happen next.

Similar to a lot of Nora Roberts recent stand alone novels, this is probably more of a mystery novel than a typical romance novel. In this particular case, I found that perhaps too much time was spent giving the back story of the individual characters and not enough time on their actual romance. Adrian and Raylan’s relationship felt a little rushed with not enough details for me. However, still a good story.

I liked this book because I always like Nora Roberta but I must admit it felt more predictable than usual, the dovetailing of junk food and super healthy regimens didn’t really work for me, I did not love our super flexible and super pushy heroine, there are many characters but so little information about them that they were hard to track, and finally that the stupid/diabolic, uneducated/super-skilled, family obsessed/ lone wolf villain was implausible in almost all respects. One star off.

This was not my favorite Nora Roberts book.  I found the main character annoying at times and weirdly pushy at times.  I knew who it was super early on.
Super happy the dog doesn't die.  Bumped my rating a little just for that.
