I love Cathy Bramley’s books and this latest Christmas book lived up to all my expectations.
Set in a small town in Derbyshire in the weeks before Christmas, this is a lovely warm-hearted story. Merry is newly engaged but beginning to find it difficult to juggle running a thriving business, planning a Christmas Eve wedding and being a step-mother to Harley and Freya. Meanwhile Emily is finding that coping with her father’s worsening dementia is becoming too much and is having to consider moving him into a home.
The chapters are written alternately from Merry’s and Emily’s point of view and we get to know both of them as their lives gradually become intertwined. I loved all of the characters and the family relationships are really well written. I especially loved Emily’s relationship with her mum Tina.
This is a great festive read, warm and cosy without being too sweet.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers, Orion, for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
