This is not a "fast" read because the language is gorgeous and you want to take your time with it. The story is haunting, heartbreaking, tragic, hopeful, and inspiring. One of the best reads of my year.

This is the second book I've read from the perspective of someone trying to illegally cross into the USA. this one is particularly worthy of a read bc a) this is a 9 year old who travels without any family b) his point of view and curiosity creates such a different book than the previous book I read
