As usual, I devoured this book.
The continuing story of Harry Bosch, Vietnam vet, murder detective, now private investigator. A tycoon calls for a private investigation with billions at stake, and a serial rapist is on the loose.
Can Bosch do both things and stay in touch with his family, such as it is?
Procedural with a few twists and a chunk of atmosphere. We get to learn a little about Vietnam via Harry's experiences there fifty years back, and something about the LA art scene. Electronics plays a bigger part in this story than ever, but still Harry's good old fashioned detective skills set him on the right path.
Michael Connelly knows how to tell a story, and this latest offering is an excellent example. The pace cracks along, there's always something new, and before you know it, the book is done.
Not quite so much of the brooding figure mulling over injustice while classic jazz plays over the Los Angeles skyline this time around, but I suspect that long time readers - like me - will just add that in automatically every time Harry unlocks his front door.

The Wrong Side of Goodbye

Harry's cold case investigations are particularly enjoyable as the reader accompanies him on his treasure-hunt like journey chasing down clues and uncovering secrets.
While both of the cases in this installment are compelling, it is the search for the missing heir that really grabs the reader with the heartwrenching twists and turns. The second case focusing on the search for a brutal serial rapist is gripping, especially the final showdown. That said, there the revelation of the rapist's identity comes out of left field due to the lack of hints along the way.
Overall, this is another entertaining addition to the series.

Bosch never disappoints! In the private sector now, and working part time as a reserve detective, Harry’s working two cases: one a lost-heir case for an aged billionaire that takes him through his own memories of the Vietnam, and the other a cold-case that turns active and deadly for Harry’s partner.

Another great entry in the Bosch series. I find these books impossible to put down. As usual I learned a bit more about Los Angles and its history and as usual I did not see the solutions in advance. Also I found out about Death Cab for Cutie's Black Soul.
