I started reading this book as part of my never-ending mission to find good books for my school library. Will I put it in my library? Probably not.

I started out disliking the book because it was cliche and trite. Poor nice guy likes beautiful girl who catches the attention of a rick and gorgeous guy. Blah, blah, blah. SO the men happen to be vampires, there are too many vampire works out for this to be the only [b:saving grace|130916|The Saving Graces A Novel|Patricia Gaffney|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1171995451s/130916.jpg|126092]. I went from dislike to strongly dislike when the main character and his nemesis bet on who could get 'the wetback' to date them first, then the main character is called a 'pussy' for not standing up the Wes, then 'the piece of ass' is harder to get than Wes expected. Both men end us sleeping with the girl, in different ways. Arg. Why would anyone put a 'teen' lable on this? None of the characters are teen, nor are the themes. Juvenile, yes, but not what I would classify as teen.

Good points? The ending. It sucks (pun intended) when the only good writing is in the last few pages. It makes you what to read the next book in the series, but can't quite make you forget that you didn't like what came before.

Funny with cool artwork. I really liked seeing a struggeling Joe Shmoe vampire instead of the usual beautifully elegant kind. This was a fairly quick read, and I didn't want to put it down.

Interesting take on the life of a low-ranked vampire. Working the night shift at a convenience store and being broke all the time certainly doesn't fit the Anne Rice mold. I'm not big on vampires in general, but this was pretty well done.

This ended up being one of those books where I thought the book was going to be better based on the cover. Often people tell me at the library, I liked the book, but I could have written a better ending. I usually end up saying, "Yeah, but your not an author are you?" I take my own advice and leave the graphic novel writing to the experts. Anyway, the cover misled me.
So another vampire etc. (this is where I would insert the comment everybody is so fond of making about how I am sooooo tired of vampires being shoved in my face...) I FREAKIN' LOVE VAMPIRES! I love it when they suck blood (bottled, necked or fake), I love it when they tear heads off of bikini bimbos, and I even love it when they fry in the sun usually creating some baking soda and tomato sauce-esque mushy-gooey melting melodrama. I love it when they stalk, sift, slink, or just flippin' mope on the couch. I love it when they splatter, suck, or sparkle. Apparently I even love it when they work at a 24 hour convenience store.
To the average reader of a graphic or YA novel, this book may not shine above the rest but to a vampire enthusiast the book will be a welcome collection to the varied legion of vampire lore. I may be a little excited about the book because the only things I have been reading recently are mortgage documents, lead paint disclosures and short sale addendums. If one needs an entertaining escape that can be picked up and put down at odd intervals, the graphic novel offers an adorable little escape.
I also loved the fact that the leading lady is a sweet latino chic with a creative streak. She already has a great career budding in the fashion industry and doesn't need some guy to come in and fix her up. Of course young love fogs her priorities (curse those reproducing hormones in our blood stream!) and she is torn between two male suitors. I know how alot of readers may think she is thinking things through on the shallow side, but really come on, who thinks straight as a teenager? I am no teenage expert, but the teens at the library I work at really talk like the dialogue in the graphic novel. They really do worry about race relations, and dating outside their usual circles.
The book is essentially worth checking out from the library, but then again, I tell everyone I meet to simply check something out from the library.

Great concept but the execution was lacking. The characters were hard to connect with and the way the women were viewed and treated throughout the whole book made me uncomfortable.

I loved the colors and artwork in this book. I'm no artist, but this artist's work really struck me. The story itself made me smile because it was so reminiscent of the movie Clerks. Also, I liked that the story depicts vampires differently. Rather than glamorizing vampires, this story suggests that they too can be stuck in dead end jobs.

Interesting premise. A wee bit too skanky for me, though.

I think the last vampire book I read was Queen of the Damned. As a brand new release. Not my usual genre. But this had great buzz and sounded fun. And sure enough. Realistic characters in an interesting context. Mostly fun, but enough serious bits to make you actually care about the characters. The ending did seem rushed/abrupt.
