Avery never really had a chance to grow up. Orphaned at eighteen, a man came into her life and swooped her off her feet, and she was married within months. Then, she became a mother. It was shortly after this time that she realized what a monster she had tied herself to. She had no freedom, no access to money, no friends or family... just her daughter and her own determination. Particularly after seeing her daughter with a broken arm due to his abuse.
It was one cold night with her living in her car with her little one when she saw another car lose control and slide into the ditch. Worried that the owner would call for help and draw attention to her own car parked in an empty lot, she helps him out. The next day, when he sees her car still there, he realizes a bit of their predicament and offers her a job. This forever changes her life.
Poor Avery had become a shell of who she was. She flinched at fast movements, hadn't experienced many things in a long time (or some things at all), and had had so many restrictions on her life that she didn't realize what she was missing out on. It took Cass (Easton), Zack, and Ryker a while for her to open up to them, but they were all smitten with her and her daughter, Chloe, almost right off the bat. They each made each other's lives better, and they made the perfect family.
Not that it matters much, but I wish the resolution with her husband was explained a bit more. We get an ending, but not exactly a "how" or "what" went down to cause the end result. I'm just a curious type, though.
In the end, I like how the author really doesn't focus much on him. He's never named in the book. It's always HIM or HE. He even gets a single chapter from his POV, and it simply says "HIM" for the name. Abusers shouldn't get recognition. They aren't worth it. Unless it's to spread the word to warn others, they can simply fade away in the past while we focus on the victims, the survivors, and help them thrive. It's actually a brilliant way of writing this.

I read this after getting an Instagram ad and while avoiding reading a different book (mood readers will get it), and the way I gobbled it up in one day is actually insane. I am an audiobook girlie because I donât have time to stare at words on a screen, but the way I made time for this book so quick tells you how good it was.
I would classify this as an entry
-level why choose romance. Our main girl, Avery, is running from her abusive husband with her 5-year-old daughter, when she ends up as the housekeeper to three hot-as-hell wounded ex-army men with a strong protector instinct. Love that for her. And, because itâs why-choose, she ends up with all of them.
HOWEVER. While we get multiple open-door spicy scenes with individual men, we get ONE TINY SHORT SUMMARY OF A FOURWAY IN THE VAGUEST OF DETAILS and that was such a letdown lol. Miss Rivers. Your sex scenes were phenomenal. You dropped the ball on that one, bruh.
I also would SELL MY SOUL for an epilogue, like, a year, or five, in the future. The end of the story, while very complete with a superb HEA, felt kind of rushed. I wanted an epilogue to help ease the loss of these characters and to know it all worked out in the long run.
However. This book was amazing. You need to read it.

Good book, feels like it could've used some more editing though as some things either repeat or just don't make sense (hurt ribs, but being pushed into a pool was fine?). The ending was kinda anticlimactic and rushed. The "who did this to you" vibes were immaculate.

This is a solid, sweet sweet, standard contemporary romance, with the added benefit of being a why choose. This book wasnât stressful, wasnât deep but honestly sometimes I just want a sugary sweet romance with low stress. I would have maybe liked a little more depth to all the characters and I was bummed the only group âfun timeâ was close door đđ
To me a 3.5 means âpretty good bookâ and I would recommend it.

It was good, bit of a slow burn romantically speaking due to the trauma Avery had gone through. I enjoyed the guys and their interactions with Chloe.

I am really torn on this one. On one hand the chracters were very loveable, had good chemistry and it was just darn cute. The healing process and the interaction between the guys and the main character and her child were charming and lovely. Also loved the different povs of the characters.
One the other hand the book deals with a very diffucult topic that needed a lot more time and focus on. Also mixing that with spicyness didn't sit very well with me. It should also have had a few more content warnings as there was metioning of rape which further didn't really work with the plot of a spicy relationship. And the time frame was just redicilious. It takes years to heal from the kind of trauma this main character suffered no matter how strong you are not just a couple of months. And there was mentioning of lots of different abuse and trauma. There is also a lot of talk about violence from the domestic abuse angle but also from the other characters against the abuser. As I said needs more trigger warnings.
I liked that the abuser did not have a name and was only referred to as he/ him. The chapter from his point of view was not needed at all though.
