Shockingly theory-heavy for a memoir. For that reason, I suspect that I might have enjoyed it more if I had a physical copy instead of the audiobook. Without the words in front of me, Nelson’s disjointed style made it harder to fit the pieces together on some of the throughlines of the book. But the way she juxtaposed certain experiences (her pregnancy with her partner’s transition; her son’s birth with her mother-in-law’s death) really made the book for me.
And it was nice to read a queer book that really dug into the nuance of queer identity without stopping to explain everything to the cishets. There’s a time and place for that, but sometimes it’s nice to really get into the weeds.

The writing of this book was beautiful and the thoughts refreshing and differentiated. A lot of it went completely over my head though, which made the reading experience slightly frustrating at times

Ugh I was expecting something akin to stone butch or bechdel, and I could see this was trying to be that, but utterly failing. Don't whine to me about how hard having a partner who wants hrt or top surgery is. And I don't care about ur obscure philosophy references. Completely insufferable.

incredible exploration of gender in relationships and while trying to have children. made me rethink so much about motherhood and queer motherhood.
