Third book was a bit too similar to the previous two. Felt slower and boring. I admit to skimming most of the last half.

It's early.

Actually it's 9am. So yes it's early.

Why am I here?

Oh yeah I finished Goliath last night. The last two chapters were a bit hazy, but the Afterword totally shocked me into wakefulness. In the world of emoticons I was "O dash O", as in, O_O followed by a lot of exclamation marks.

Ok I was that shocked. I am, however, rather dazed by something that just happened. So bear with me.

So. Goliath, huh.

Let's just say the action/character development ratio could've tilted a bit...to the right.

At least we get to meet Mad Tesla (who defeated the bears with a electric walking stick)! And the Russian bears (that ate an entire ecosystem)! And see Bovril learn (words like bum-rags)! And, and and....go to Japan! This is plenty awesome.

This is a decent trilogy - there is high energy and a great and interesting take on the Alternate History genre - Also, I do love this series, but I feel that it is improperly labeled as "Steampunk" - this novel is more like 50% Bio-punk and 30% Diesel-punk with 15% Tesla-punk and 5% Steampunk elements - calling this a Steampunk novel is inaccurate and I believe that it is done because Steampunk is the "cool" punk right now - Again, read these books and this series - it is great Young Adult Fiction, but do not expect too much Steam and you will get plenty of interesting and original ideas in this series.

This was just absolutely breath-taking. I loved the ending, as well as the explosions, the details, the scientific concepts of it all... even the play out of the important events in WW1- but most of all OH GOD I JUST LOVE THEM BOTH DEAR LORD SAVE ME FROM MY FANGIRLING HEART

I dunno about this one guys...

I enjoyed reading the first two of this series, and maybe it's my rose-tinted glasses, but I felt that Goliath was not as good. Nothing was bad about it, but I wasn't as excited for the story or the characters while reading this book.

I was mainly curious for the romance between Alek and Deryn and hoping that finally, FINALLY, she would tell him that she was in fact, NOT a boy. I was going to spoiler tag this, but since this is the last book of the trilogy, it's pretty obvious that Deryn's big secret will be revealed to Alek. And it was. And it was a little disappointing, but only because he acted the way I expected. I guess you can say that about the entire book...everything went as expected.

I liked that there were historical figures in this book. I liked that Deryn didn't have to revert to wearing skirts or acting girly. I liked what happened in the end. But the book just didn't wow me. I guess I just wanted more oomph.

3.5-4.0 stars.

As action packed and fun to read as the last two. I did feel like there could've been an...epilogue or something though. Goliath felt less like the end to the series and more like the beginning of another sequel.

A solid ending to The Leviathan Trilogy. Fun, YA WWI alt-history/steampunk. Dylan/Deryn and Alek are engaging characters. The dialogue is tremendous ("Barking Spiders!!!", need I say more?). and how can you beat Nikola Tesla...you can't.
