A must-read for anyone who is interested in Greek tragedy or women in antiquity.

Much like Oedipus at Colonus, I found this extremely boring. There was once again no real intrigue in the events that were happening, and I feel like everything fell flat. I loved the women in this story though, because they always stood their ground. I think my problem with Greek plays, or maybe just with Sophocles, is that all of the big events that happen are always told to us by a messenger or an outside force, and we often aren't in the mist of the big event that happens. I think that's why everything fell flat for me.

I love the play, it was lovely to reread it for the first time in audio form.

Despite the fact this was recommended by a friend I respect, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this and I imagine that's the response of many who are used to plain ole dry Sophocles translations. Especially with the more modern and accessible language, it's easy to see how the underlying concepts within the story, of morals/doing what's right, could be seen in a different light. Particularly having experience IN a Sophocles Chorus, I see great and interesting opportunities in staging this with the chorus!
