This book was different than what I expected. For one, the narrator’s voice is very heavy handed. This led to a lot of telling rather than showing, though it slowed for an interesting nonlinear narrative. The nonlinear style really saved this book because the actual events themselves wouldn’t have been as engaging if told in order.

I liked the characters alright, though I wish we’d gotten more of Nikos, Agathi, and Leo in particular. If you want a thriller that’s based in character studies, this is for you. But don’t go into it expecting lots of suspense or action.

honestly so so disappointed in this book. I had high hopes because I’ve loved every novel so far but this story just seem really unconnected. The narration of Elliot was a bit lacking and the random references from the wizard of oz to Shakespeare to Greek methodology just did not go well together. I wanted to love it but I couldn’t. There were no shocks, no gasps from me at all….

I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher (Celadon Books) for promotional purposes.

What a twisty story!

I’ve previously read one of the author’s other books, The Maidens, and thought it was good but not great. I found The Fury to be much better.

I really enjoyed the way the story was told. It was broken up into 5 acts and was told from the point of view of Elliot, an (incredibly) unreliable narrator. Having Elliot tell the story was the perfect choice. I liked how conversational his narration was. It made the story more engaging. Every act revealed something new and the twists were revealed at a good pace.

I also liked the greek tragedy vibes/aesthetic. It felt like I was reading a modern day greek tragedy.

As for the rest of the characters, none of them were particularly likable, but I didn’t hate any of them either. I just didn’t feel attached to any of them or find them noteworthy.

For me, endings make or break a thriller, and I was happy with the ending. I definitely did not see it coming and unlike The Maidens, it made sense and felt complete.

Overall, this was a very clever thriller. If you’re looking for a new thriller to read, consider picking up this one!
