I think my hopes were too high for this novel once I heard it was worthy of being made into a movie. I did not like Emma's character after France. She just drops everything and that is okay? I was disappointed. Dexter's character was horrible. I really did not like him at all. The last 30 pages or so were a let down. It was an easy fast read, but I thought the plot should have gone differently.

Yeah, it made me cry... And laugh, too. But I think that without my resemblance to Emma, I would not enjoy it that much. She was boring, he was an asshole, but I guess they are an evidence for "what goes around, comes around."
Emma is a bookworm and author chose artworks I know, which felt like we could be friends.
•From two strangers to best friends.
Seemingly uncompatibles drawn to each other maybe because of the people they become when they are together.

I wanted to read this before watching the show and wow what a heart wrenching book. Such a lovely story, I was hooked from the beginning wanting to know more about the evolution of their relationship. It felt real, but at times cringe on how lost they were, although that’s real life.

I really enjoyed this book. For some reason it took me awhile to get through it but it was well worth it in the end. I loved "watching" the characters grow and mature. Some of the parts were a bit tedious but the rest of the story more then made up for it. I just learned that Anne Hathaway is set to star in the movie adaptation which I will definitely be keeping an eye out for!

Of the stages of grief, I’ve settled on ANGER.
Em and Dex, Dex and Em. Through almost all of this book, I was impressed by the depth of intelligence and humor the author gave to the characters. And I was impressed how Emma was complex, and how she felt each decade of her life.
HOWEVER, OUR AUTHOR APPARENTLY CANNOT FATHOM ANY PURPOSE FOR A WOMAN WHO LIVES PAST 40 YEARS OLD
Bye,Em. Apparently you were a plot device all along. So now the main character Dex can be rescued once again, and now he has a new girlfriend who is under 30, the only proper age for woman
Apparently I am overdue to be run over by a bus

I suppose you could call this an extra extra slow burn , and I mean that in the best of ways. One Day is a great albeit at times heart wrenching book that tackles the passage of time, growing older, grief and more in addition to the romantic “will they won’t they” plot. It might hit a bit extra close to home if you are say, a late twenty something year old experiencing the old “quarter life crisis”. Still, following Em and Dex through the decades is as enjoyable as it is excruciating.

Couldn’t get into it bc I tried to read it straight after watching the show and it was basically the same word for word

This is probably my 3rd read of this book and I've loved it each and every time I've read it. I love the nostalgia and the romance of it but mostly because of how relateable the characters are.
I also love the Netflix series: it has quite a slow start but gets better. But the film will always be better for me.
