A compelling and powerful inter generational family saga about the successive cycles of trauma experienced by the women of a Palestinian family living in Brooklyn. I read this book compulsively finding myself caught in the family's narrative and understanding how disempowerment and shame create a cycle of intergenerational trauma.

Depsite the dark and difficult parts of this story, the narrative of women struggling to find their voice and learn their worth is so poignant. A 5-star read for sure.

I should probably wait until the tears have dried from reading the end of this book to write a review.

An astonishing debut. Rum has a powerful voice, and she is exceedingly successful at creating complex and engaging characters. I look forward to reading more of her hork.

This was such an excellent book and story to read. Amazing debut from the author and makes me extremely interested in reading her second book.

But please make sure you are mentally ready to read this book. While I would highly recommend it, it’s also a mentally taxing book to read.

This book made me understand better how women in certain situations think that I definitely didn’t take into account ever. The dual POVs and changes from the 90s to 2000s was such a great way to read this story. There are so many books TikTok and social media has lead me to and I’m real glad for this one.
