¿Cómo consigues hacer un libro sobre Superman aburrido? No sé pero este autor lo logró

Superman Dawnbreaker is the 4th book in the DC Icons Series and also my first read of the Icon series. The book follows Clark Kent a teenager with extraordinary powers where he finds out that Jonathan and Martha Kent is not his real parents and he is from Krypton. The plot of Dawnbreaker is about people of colour going missing in Smallville and how Clark and Lana uncover the whole operation named Dawnbreaker project.

This is the first time I'm reading a book that is of superheros and those I know. So reading it and imagining the characters was quiet easy. The flow of the book is constant and there is no boring parts in it.

I loved the fact that Matt let us see how Clark reacted when he found out that he is not from this earth. How he just thought that this is the way he is. The other part that I really loved was the end where they talk about a junior journalist making front page. And if you know your Superman then you won't have to guess.

I really liked the book and can't wait to reader the other 3 in the DC Icon series.

xoxo

Unfortunately, this book was the worst book in the DC Icons series for me. It's a good thing this book was published last in the series because I don't know if I would have been tempted to read the other books in the series if this book was the first that I read, even though the other books are written by other authors.

The problems that I had with this book was that for one, it incredibly slow. I would say the last 80 pages were the best part of this book, but even then it does not redeem the rest of the book. Another problem in the general storyline. It's not gripping enough. If I didn't have the reading attitude of finishing most of the books that I read unless it is absolutely terrible to read, then I would have DNFed this book. The plot focuses on the mystery around Smallville but it wasn't mysterious, and when I was reading the story, I didn't care about what was happening. I think it's because the mystery of Smallville is quite clear. You know it's some sort of military presence, but you don't know exactly what they are doing. I would have preferred a more ambiguous mystery. Plus, the ending was abrupt with a lot of loose strings which weren't tied up. In addition, whilst I felt like the immigrants in Smallville plot line was a good one, especially because of our current social political climate, I also felt like it hindered the story more then it helped it. It wasn't executed well enough. Last but not least, it wasn't a good story of Superman. I do think that it is an incredibly difficult task to create a good Superman story because of his characteristics and super powers, but I also think that what happened in this story wasn't focused enough on the development of Clark in general.

Overall, I think that the idea behind the story was good but it wasn't executed well. I wouldn't recommend this book, but I would recommend all of the other books in the DC Icons series.

Aw, I really liked Clark! What a good kid! This story focuses a bit on aliens and immigration, which makes sense for this update. It's still missing something.
I can see why others found this boring, but I thought it was kind of like, wholesome, naive kid, which didn't bother me this time around. I wish I liked it more, but I didn't hate it either. Probably a 3.5.

This was good. I liked Clark and Lana and Gloria and also how everything came together at the end. I didn’t enjoy it as much as Wonderwoman and Catwomen though because I found the beginning a bit dragging and the story very predictable. Still I enjoyed it overall, it was a fun, short read. I‘m sad this „series“ is over, wish there were more superhero growing-up stories.

As with the Wonder Woman and Batman books, I tried to give this a couple of chapters and just couldn't stay hooked. It isn't going to be for me, so I'd rather make sure my copy goes to someone who wants and will enjoy it.

While I enjoyed all of the DC Icon series, this one just wasn't the same caliber.
