Super interesting dynamic between the lovers. This is a pretty good take on the grumpy x sunshine trope, but the monster is the sunshine partner absolutely enamored with his grumpy human. They are adorable. Honestly, though, Hunter is not at all a likable character he is someone both too rough and too sensitive and really Edin deserves better. But Edin wants Hunter so whatever.

The main plot in the book is Hunter trying to track down his best friend Charlie and as the primary overarching plot, it is weird to have one member of the main couple in a romance so obsessed with someone else. IRL I totally understand that pull of friendship, but in a romance like this, it feels just a bit off. There is also some ambiguity about the ending that made the ending slightly less palatable to me.
First I really hated that rescuing Charlie happened without any regard for the other humans and monsters that were left in the same underground fight ring. It seems horribly out of character for Edin especially to see other monsters suffering and not go out of his way to rescue them. I fully understand that this is probably helping set up other books in the series, but it is majorly uncomfortable to know something so inhumane is actively happening even as Hunter and Edin get their HEA.
While the first book had several loose endings, the unfinished feel of this book is much more acute.

Wyn and Danny were adorable in this book! It was very nice to see them and have more loose ends of their story resolved.

The monster fucker element here was much less than in the first book as Edin is basically an oversized purple human.  Sex scenes were good, but without any of the creativity, I normally expect from a monster fucker book. There weren't any anatomy differences or discussion about logistics, they were all pretty basic M/M sex scenes.

Despite my complaints, the book was fully engaging and held my attention cover to cover.
