TDLR:
- Sober tone
- Love conquers all
- A happy but open ended conclusion
Horizon is more sober than the previous books.Ā
Iām not sure if it was the pacing and the mood, or the fact that I was just growing jaded reading this series, but I struggled to get through the first 100 pages.Ā
I think this book is probably the best written out of the seriesā¦ but I enjoyed the plot the least. Thatās probably just a me thing.Ā
It felt like the villains were mostly bark instead of bite. Thereās just so much monologging in every book.Ā
The ending was good. It makes you wonder whatās going to happen in the future, but it also delivers a promise of happiness for our protagonists.
In the end, Xotchilās sight is returned to how it originally was at the start of the series. She realizes that she allowed the ableism to get to her and lost confidence in herself. I liked this development, but Iām not sure that her friends learned anything from how their behavior affected Xotchil. Lita is immediately like āOmg! No! How could you wish to be blind again?ā I just think it could have been more of a teaching moment.
I really did like the characters in this series, but Iām a sucker for found family so thatās not too surprising.Ā
Graphic: Grief, Murder, and Death
Minor: Pregnancy and Death of parent
