  • Sober tone
  • Love conquers all
  • A happy but open ended conclusion

Horizon is more sober than the previous books.Ā

Iā€™m not sure if it was the pacing and the mood, or the fact that I was just growing jaded reading this series, but I struggled to get through the first 100 pages.Ā

I think this book is probably the best written out of the seriesā€¦ but I enjoyed the plot the least. Thatā€™s probably just a me thing.Ā

It felt like the villains were mostly bark instead of bite. Thereā€™s just so much monologging in every book.Ā

The ending was good. It makes you wonder whatā€™s going to happen in the future, but it also delivers a promise of happiness for our protagonists.

In the end, Xotchilā€™s sight is returned to how it originally was at the start of the series. She realizes that she allowed the ableism to get to her and lost confidence in herself. I liked this development, but Iā€™m not sure that her friends learned anything from how their behavior affected Xotchil. Lita is immediately like ā€œOmg! No! How could you wish to be blind again?ā€ I just think it could have been more of a teaching moment.

I really did like the characters in this series, but Iā€™m a sucker for found family so thatā€™s not too surprising.Ā
