This is Lincoln Preston's (collaboration of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child) sequel to their earlier novel Relic.

As befits any sequel, the canvas is larger this time around, with the novel set in (and below) the entirety of Manhattan rather than just in Manhattan's Museum on Natural History (where Relic was set). It seems there are monsters in the sewers now ...

The novel also pretty much the same cast as the earlier book (Dr Frock, Margo Green, Bill Smithback, Lieutenant D'Agosta and Special Agent Pendergast), not all of whom who are who they appear to be, and is indeed a pretty gripping read!

This sequel to "Relic" fell flat in a few places, but was still a satisfying read. Again, a table-side dictionary was necessary for me because the authors flaunt their mastery of vocabulary. "En mufti", anyone?

Another entertaining read, with (mostly) believable action sequences and fun characters. This series is indeed a standout from all the other run of the mill "ancient evil, shoot missile" type stories. Probably gonna continue it.

As much as I loved the first book, I can’t say I cared much for the sequel.

Nice followup to the NYNHM story seen in Relic, with all of the main characters returning, and some new ones. The historical foundations of NYC's subterranean levels and its residents was very interesting. The scariness of the first story is still there, and I liked it.
