Omg finally. A book that isn't absolute hot garbage but written for a YA audience. SHOCK AND AWE!

I guess because they sell anyone other authors are like FUCK IT and just write trashy garbage that flies off the shelves. "If I make it sound even remotely like Twilight those dumb young adults will just eat it up!"

Anyway this was literally fan-fucking-tastic.

Comic relief character? NOT annoying!! Zuze is great!

Romance? It's got it and it didn't feel cliche at all.
Spoiler It had the usual "we can't be together" but at least there was a fucking GOOD reason for that.
no ridiculous misunderstandings that could be solved with a quick conversation between adults.

Really cool and mysterious magic system that kept me hooked.

Anyway, I devoured it and now on to the next!

I was HYPED about this book. ALL of my favorite reviews hailed this book a 5 star... And I was pretty sucked in for the first half of the book. There was some repetition (I get it, the best friend is a shortie and hey, lets compare that to her marionette skills....) and the characters were a little flat, but the story-line was so cool and intriguing. Enter Akaiva and it all fell apart for me. It felt rushed, unfinished, shallow... I'm reading the second installation now in hopes that this saga will win me over as it did those that I respect a great deal, but this one just didn't do it for me.

Wonderful.

If I’m being honest it’s probably a high 4.5 because I don’t really know how I feel about that plot twist, it was just kinda odd? But I still really enjoyed it and it’s too good for a 4 star.

I think this is a case of "it's me, not you."

This was pretty good. I think i just saw some of the major plot jaw-droppers coming. I have never read anything about the whole “angels vs demons” thing. I liked the fantastical creatures element alright, i just didn’t LOVE it. It was interesting thinking about monsters having souls and making decisions whether they’re good or evil.
