This was a book that I have been meaning to read for years, but every Halloween would come and go without me following through. I listened to this, wonderfully read by Anthony Heald, and thought it was entertaining but not particularly spooky. The writing is overly descriptive & for the most part, describes the area around Sleepy Hollow, the people and the history of the area. I thought the description of Ichabod Crane was great & it was probably the only place I appreciated the excessive descriptions. I was hoping for more around the Headless Horseman, for tales of him terrorising the villagers, but he’s almost a footnote to the story.

Boarding my train to leave New York City and embark on my new life in the Hudson Valley, I decided this story, which I'd never read, should be the one. And the audiobook narrator was such a delight, making me feel as if I were sitting by a campfire. And thus it was perfect.

This was a freebie on Audible last month, and it was SOOOO good, read by TV's Ichabod Crane, Tom Mison. For the first time in this English major's life, I wished this story was longer! :-D (Story: 3.5 stars, Narrator: 5 stars)
