Liked but not loved. Slightly similar in style to white teeth but less engrossing. I wanted to know what happened next, but I didn't really care about the characters.

I've had this book for months, and I'm sorry it took me so long to get to it! I didn't go into the novel with any preconceptions or expectations, which was nice. I enjoyed the plot and the characters for what they were. I also love Smith's writing style. Her prose is fluid and readable.
I've never read any of Zadie Smith's other novels, and I hear they're even better than NW. I'm eager to explore more of her work.

Reading this book was an incredible experience for me. So many things going on, on so many levels!
The characters of the book struggle. They struggle to fit in because of where they are from, or because of the colour of their skin, because of work, family, friends. They struggle shaping themselves into what is expected from them to become.
It's impossible to think this is not something we all come through at some point. At any point.
