This book was eye-opening for me. It was a bit scary to read it, but I am grateful for the journey. Especially recommend non-defensive communication.

This title intimidated me when my therapist recommended it, but it has been an integral part of my healing. I appreciate the stories of other women's relationships that helped normalize my experiences. I thought the exercises were hokey at first, but I've repeated a few because they really were helpful. This was not an easy book to read, but it has helped change my perspective, strengthen the relationships I cherish (including with myself).

Note to my Goodreads Friends:

I started this book in 2015 and had to put it on hold because the initial truth that I have a mother who is incapable of loving me as I am versus the child she dreamed to have was too harsh of a reality to face.

From this book, I received affirmation of my truth and my story.

Healing however, is in complete for me and I'm ready to start healing some of the deepest wounds I have.

All that being said, yes, this is my story.

Absolutely brilliant book to address the mother wound. Some very binary and outdated language AND still such a resource for anyone who has experienced anything like what's written. Constantly recommending this book to my own clients, friends, and colleagues.

Although I didn't grow up with an ideal mother still nothing in this book resonates with me and it doesn't necessarily make it a bad book. It's just not for me.
