Sparknotes saved me on this one. I was so confused in the first few chapters. Hardy tends to do that with me. Once I got oriented with the story, it went much better. This is my second Hardy read. I enjoyed this MUCH more than Under the Greenwood Tree. I was also able to treat myself to the movie afterwards, which was nice. But, the characters, in the book, were quite different, in my opinion.

Listened to the audiobook read by Alan Rickman. Mesmerizing! Run out and get it. You won't be sorry.

Like everyone else said, the first couple of chapters of this book are hard to swallow, but with time, the book's characters grow on you. So many misunderstandings! Throw in a pool or a mysterious cruise and this could be a script from an 80's Days of our Lives storyline. For this reason, I could not give it 5 stars.
