4.5 stars: I loved it, I'm sad it's over, excited for the next trilogy.

My expectations:
I guess I expected an intense action sequence at the end and maybe it is the audiobook that made me feel eh about it but I didn't like the action sequence as much as the one in book 6 and book 4.

Characters:
- John/Four: Wow he went through some schist and it shows. I don't like him as much as before, just because he became extremely impulsive and angry, as well as his point of view was not as enjoyable to me.
- Six: Honestly, I think I've finally learned to appreciate Six more. Yes, she is the most impulsive, jump right into a battle girl in the books, but I love her for it. Also, after reading a short story about her, I just vibe with her even more.
- Sam: Sam is the sweetest, and has given up so freaking much for John and John never ever even thanks him ugh.
- Five: That redemption arc was pretty mediocre, it shouldn't have happened and I'm glad Marina still doesn't forgive him because I don't either.
- Marina: My queen, our lord and saviour, probably the best character, and also the most complex one. We got to explore her grief and it was amazing, learning how she was working through it.
- Nine: He is THE frat boy out of this gang. I don't like him at all but thank you for helping us win the war.
- Ella: What the actual frick happened to the sweet and innocent Ella that we know and love from book 2? Like, she is so freaking changed in both bad and good ways and I just can't believe every single way she has changed.

Ships:
- John x Marina?: Why what when why??? I still don'T know if this was for real, but I really hope it wasn't.
- John x Six: Again, it was only a kiss and it was only because John was dying and Six was reassuring him but still, why?
- Six x Sam: Probably my otp, mainly because Six really didn't want to be in a relationship but Sam and she are so cute it breaks my heart.
- Nine x Ella: I know that he and Ella only have like a three-year difference but at the point of the epilogue I'm pretty sure Nine is 18 and Ella still a minor so ummm, yes they are cute, but I don't like the age gap.

Deaths (no spoilers):
Ok, I'm just going to say it: not enough people died. Up to this point in the series, only two of the main characters have died. So, why would you only kill ONE SIDE CHARACTER in the finale of a book with a war in it. How did everyone manage to survive except one of their allies and one chimera? I have no freaking idea.

Fave character:
My fave is Marina. I would have answered something else but then it would have been a spoiler so yeah, Marina is the best. I love her because she is exactly my type: innocent looking but extremely badass and also in a way, not a human.

Pacing:
Not my fave of this series in terms of pacing but I did like the pacing of the battle and how they changed the point of view of every chapter between John and Six.

Other notes:
I recommend this series to everyone, but just know, heartbreak is coming bahaha.

And so it ends.

Fairly good overall. Kind of disappointed with the ending but what a good conclusion

Just a great series. Although kinda a bit X-men like at the end, but still enjoyable. I hope Lore makes a series out of the human Garde as well. The last scene about Walker is a good opening for a sequel. :-)

I had very high expectations for this last book. Perhaps that's unfair, but it's true. They're all struggling hardcore with PTSD--especially John--and it makes it rough. That said, the upgrades a few of the Mogs get are really interesting, and that particular battle is really intense and well done. The battle to get to the big baddie is exciting and made really cool pictures in my head. They're so stinking powerful now, that battles they struggled with in the first book are practically afterthoughts now. The author hits this idea hard, so when they get in and face big baddie and he swats them like flies, it's a little frustrating. That battle is underwhelming. Plus, they beat him in a way I knew they would two books ago. That's not unusual for me, but I don't feel like it was pulled off well. Then the perspective jumps not only to someone else, but back in time a bit, which was disorienting, and to a different battle you didn't even know was happening. And then it's one year later so someone can remember what happened next and then check in with everyone else. Don't get me wrong, I still loved it, but the end was a little rough for me.
