I enjoyed this so much! A great, fast-paced, standalone fantasy with some wonderful characters and a unique world. I thought the writing style was great, the world-building was clear but not info-dumping, and the character/relationship development was done very well!

I picked this book up for the storygraph challenge; it was supposed to be a book catered to my main moods: dark, adventurous and mysterious. And yes, I got magic, an enchanted forest, curses, a prince and princess, a girl who gets to be more than what she thought she could be and all that bass. It even fitted a wlw couple by the end (albeit way to briefly it almost felt like an afterthought). But all in all... I didn’t like it. It was fast, way to fast at times. The climax left me like ... that was it? And the aftermath was all off page. And it was a relatively short time to fix all that mess. It had a lot of blood, tbh I was worried Cerys was gonna bleed out! The romance... it could have been very good but it felt so flat to me. And most of the plot twists were totally predictable. I didn’t like that Cerys kept saying she was just a gardener’s daughter! And yeah, lots of plot holes. Perhaps a younger version of me would have loved it, but I am afraid to admit that I’ve definitely outgrew YA by now :c

I easily could have read this book in one day. It was just so good! I found myself completely wrapped up in the world, not to mention the characters. The big reveal towards the end was something I guessed, but it was still well-done. I'm also glad that the romance in this wasn't too much, if that makes sense. It didn't feel in my face, even though I could see the direction. Also, I enjoyed the queer romances that were in the background, although I wish they had been featured more. Overall, a great read and I can't wait to read more of Poston's books!
