Slut; a word that has a negative connotation, but Ethical Slut redefines the word into something more positive because we're in the modern age.
For some reason, I wanted to read this book for a long time. Maybe because the title was giving something to reclaim back (like the term "b*tch" or "c*nt") and making it a positive thing. Regrdless, I finally got around to reading it (and thankfully found a copy at a used bookstore because the time I took to read this versus my other books was a bit too long).
In my personal life, being a slut isn't a bad thing. My pre-book thoughts were that it's okay to date, fool, and sleep around because you're getting to know yourself and what you like and don't like. (What I call this time is a "slut phase", where you do whatever you want, as long as you're safe.). After reading the book, it changed my ideal situation that marriage doesn't have to be the end goal and it's okay to have several relationships with other people (whether it be in a friendly banter or an actual serious relationship), as long as you're comfortable with it, communication is clear and the feeling is mutual and respectful. (The point that drove this home is that your primary partner may not have enough for every little thing you like, but it doesn't mean you have to force them to do it; it's okay to have someone else to enjoy those events with.)
For now, I actually enjoy being single without any major commitments, especially with another person, which also maybe being an ethical slut a bit easier, since there's no one else I need to communicate with. Now, this isn't for everyone nor is this book trying to convert you to a polyamorist; instead, it's broadening the perspective that marriage isn't the only option (even though it's been publicized the most).

an insightful introduction book to non monogamy and polyamory. The downside is that it is quite heteronormative

Interesting read, very informative on relationship styles. Gets a little too hippie dippie at times. I didn't care for certain parts that seem to paint monogamy in a negative light. For a book about free love, it was pretty judgemental at times.
