Not a fan of James Patterson, but this is a collection of reminisces from nurses, so I thought I would give it a shot. Several stories address COVID. I'm not sure how actual nurses will like the book as they probably all have similar stories ("been there, done that"). However, for us non-nurses, it's a peek behind the curtain. My favorites:
-police, firefighters, other medical personnel, patients & their families are presented respectfully
-that a nurse had to explain how tv worked in 1998 (pre-Netflix) so her story could be understood
-the ED nurse who thought labor fluids were just gross & is grateful she doesn't work in L & D

Found this to be compelling and true. As a nurse, I am glad that someone put the words of nurses into print!

I checked out this book at the end of my final semester of nursing school. I didn't have a lot of time to read for pleasure during school (like at all) and I thought this book could work on those odd moments where I had time to read. The book is basically the nurse's subreddit brought to life. The short 2-3 page stories were perfect for my overworked, stressed out mind to read before passing out, but I wouldn't say there was anything in them I hadn't already read on reddit.

If you wanna know what it’s like to be a nurse, read this book. It tells stories that just couldn’t be true… but they are, and only a nurse can understand that. Some of the stories harp on the “nurse heroes” a little too much, thus the three star review.
