I found the 'twist' quite obvious, not because it was well-signposted (in fact reading it with the twist in mind there were several moments which contradicted it), but just because of the tone and set up. I probably would've enjoyed this a lot more when I was the age Mia is, which is presumably the target audience, so fair enough

Mia has a twin brother called Jamie and he's becoming restless in his home situation. Their mother is mentally ill and refuses to get help. Jamie decides to take drastic action to get his mother to get help. And then there's a shooter loose in Mia's school and she has a horrible feeling that she knows who it is...

A quick read, yet intriguing. The ending was entirely unexpected and felt a bit rushed and the writing style was bland, but it was otherwise an interesting read.

The ending was trash. Horrendously bad. Thought it was going to be good at first but very disapointing.

When I was reading the book,
1. I fell asleep, few times. 2. I told my friend it would be better if it was written in her brother's POV.

But then, after I woke up-falling asleep again after reading it for a few pages-I was confronted with some PLOT TWISTS bombed in my face in a quite WHAT?! way. The excitement didn't last long, but it resulted in this rating:

2.8/5. I was confused.

.......................................................................

The main character, Mia is potrayed as a weak girl, who has always been bullied by girls and boys in her really-dont-sound-comfortable school. Since she is fragile mentally and physically, it is expected that there wouldn't be much thrilling tactics while she is having a hide-and-seek moment with the gunman. Maybe T've taken YA books for granted. Blame me, but aren't teenagers these day have always been potrayed as a bunch of kids who are ready for an apocalypse instead of a math exam? Mia, obviously, is boring but true. When terror hits, it's sure as hell i'm gonna be weaker than she is.

I almost give up reading this, but 1. I'll feel guilty. 2. Like Mia, I wanna know what is happening to Jamie. I can't say that I've enjoyed the book because the storyline, the ideas....comes to an end hastily. There are so much more. I want so much more.

Mia hasn't had an easy life. Her mother is a bi-polar, manic depressive, and while her grandfather was able to help out the situation, ever since his death, Mia's mum has been spiralling out of control. Times are desperate for Mia and her twin brother, Jamie, who has a history of mysterious violent events following him around, but never any proof that he did them. Mia, on the other hand, is shy and non-confrontational. That changes when she learns that there is a shooter in the school. When she thinks about conversations with Jamie, Mia fears the worst and decides to go and seek out the shooter.
This book comes with a pretty decent twist at the end, although, it kind of seemed a little too soap-opera-ish for me, like it was too fake and convenient.

The author uses bad writing to make us believe that the ending will be predictable. It wasn't. The ending was interesting but it was also poorly executed.
It was an easy book and didn't take more than a few hours to read, so I would recommend it to people who need a break from more challenging books.
