This book was not quite as damaging to my psyche as Dark Age, but it certainly had its moments. This installment covered so much ground, but also carried a slow and creeping dread, especially through the parts where it felt like things were working out just a little too well. Light Bringer includes a lot of ups and downs, and through the dread there is a definitive thread of hope that was often missing through Dark Age.

I absolutely loved the depth that is added to the characters in this book. After spending so much time with these characters, it was really rewarding (and sometimes infuriating) to see how their arcs are expanded (or ended). I also particularly loved the conversations that happened between some of the characters reflecting on their own journeys. It added some great insights for sure.

While I loved the political machinations taking place, the overall division POVs through that framing was not my favorite. I have really loved getting so many more POVs and I’m not gonna lie, the back half of this book began to wear on me with the primary back and forth between two characters. It was definitely compelling, and had some absolutely wild and also devastating moments, but I spent the whole time missing one of the other POVs in particular. My gal really added a lot of stateliness and I missed her!

Overall this was another amazing book, and I was completely wrecked by the end. It was fitting and it made sense, and I had a feeling it was coming but that didn’t make it any less heartbreaking for me. Cannot believe the character that I have shed the most tears for is THAT guy. IYKYK.

I give this one 4.5⭐️.
