This is the kind of Stephen King I like - a normal length novel 😂, a story that's easy to follow, and a really likeable narrator. Oh and I LOVED his relationship with the old professor. Only thing that still niggles at me was his parentage - like, was it really necessary to the story? I think not.

Story begins with Jamie apologizing for using the word "later" too much, but I didn't notice. I also appreciate Stephen King always making sure to include a diverse character set (seems that's true of most of the books I'd read of his). Still working my nerve up to The Shining though!

Its so rare to have a malicious character happen to be queer instead of being malicious because they are queer and credit where credit is due Stephen King did this Very Well.

Ive always enjoyed non linear storytelling (I also enjoy when a medium using non linear storytelling shouts out another work using non linear storytelling hellooo saw reference!! made me very happy ty mr king :P) and I enjoyed Jamies narration through his lives most harrowing experiences quite a lot.
He’s an incredibly sympathetic and believable character. Which is another credit to Stephen King considering he hasn’t been a child or teenager in a while and he managed to make me (someone who is almost exactly Jamies age and therefore was a kid in the early 2000s like he was) believe wholeheartedly that this a peers story I’m being told.

All the little (and big) nudges and references, if you can call them that, to It especially were exciting to me personally. Since that particular bit of King legacy introduced me into horror as a genre and i pretty much don’t function normally anymore whenever Maine, Sewers or Clowns or in this case Deadlights are brought up. All in all i had a pretty good time with this and would read more about Jamies run ins with the dead.

This was a pretty fun ghost/crooked cop/son-mother relationship story. I really enjoyed it until the end, which really ticked me off.
