Jacqueline Susann has the energy of a relative that had a really wild life post-divorce and has all these stories that could not possibly be true but maybe they are? This book is about a poor little rich girl who is trying to start an independent life in New York in 1970 after a horrible motorcycling accident. She is also very attracted to her father?? So much happens in this book and it never stops happening even when she takes some acid and walks into the sea.

This book is, to be quite frank, the best kind of trash. Jacqueline Susann was not Proust but she never pretended to be. She invented pop culture that is still being referenced and has its influences to this day and this book is an example of that. To say that these characters in these events won’t still follow me would be a lie. There are a few shockers here and there, but what I do see is a story told from someone inside “Show Business” in the literary world. And that means showing all the ugly parts. I’m not surprised that her books sold so well apart from being a genius at promotion she also knew how to tell a story and is in the Guinness book of world records now. It’s sad that we got such few books from her had she been given more life to live she would’ve been as prolific as Stephen King or Jackie Collins, her modern day iteration and influence, and sold just as well.

This book was trashy and unhinged, but I was entertained for every moment of it

Every character in this book needs therapy. And the ones with therapists need better therapists.

I just didn't get this book. A girl is obsessed with her dad, so she dates a guy his age. Eventually, she gets so high during an orgy thst she drowns herself?
There was nothing enlightening or heartbreaking about this story. I didn't care about the characters, so I didn't care when they died.
