I'm going to put it out there now, at the start of this review, this is my least favourite book so far. Is it a bad book? Absolutely not. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely yes. Was it a necessary book in the series? Probably not. I mean Two Dark Reigns really had a lot to live up to, because I absolutely loved the first two books in this series. However whilst I enjoyed it, this book fell a little bit short for me.

The second book in this series was left on such a cliff hanger that I just had to pick this one up more or less immediately after as I could not wait to find out what was going to happen next. The thing that really keeps me going with this series is the characters. I love all of the characters in their different ways. The queens are just amazing, I want to know them in real life. I want to be their friends. I want a bear, I want to be a naturalist. I just want this story to be real and I want to be part of it.

Whilst I feel there were some gaps in this book and a lot of it was unnecessary I do feel that Two Dark Reigns really progressed a lot of the relationships that were building in the first two books. That being romantic relationships and also those relationships with the queens guardians and even between the sisters themselves.

I love Kendare Blake's writing style, she makes a fantasy book very easy to read and I have read all of her books so far in one single day. Once I start I cannot put them down. However with this one I did struggle in the start to really engage myself with the story. Not a lot went on, and I just urged the story forward so we could get to a bit of action. I will say, that I flew through this after the first 150 pages.

I did like this book but feel that it didn't really need to be there. The series could have easily coped without it. However, I did enjoy it and the ending had me wanting the next book immediately. Luckily enough for me, I did have the book immediately and I won't lie, I am writing this review having finished the series because I didn't want to stop reading to write this review. Sorry!

I just love this world and story but this book wasn’t as good as the 2nd. It was quite slow. Parts of the ending were a bit random. But still love the series!

I see now why Kendare Blake called this quartet more of a series of two duologies... this book definitely went in a completely different direction than I expected.

Tbh the most enjoyable one for me so far. :D
Can’t wait to read the next.

I’m so done with Katharine though. I was hoping Pietyr would complete that ritual and that she would indeed shrivel up.

WOW! The best book of the series. Mira and Arsinoe struggle to find their path on the Mainland while Arsinoe struggles with dreams of past queens. Katharine starts her reign as queen. Jules must determine her fate.
I loved how this book shed light on past queens, the line's history. Great read.

The plot gets thicker. Very twisty. The author is definitely taking me for a ride with each book, but I still can't fathom it's destination.

3 stars because I did not care for how the last quarter of the book went. I felt like it was starting to unravel a bit, and my interest is kind of waning. I now feel like since I've committed to three books worth of this vicious tale, I owe it to myself to see how it ends. However, I need a bit of a break and will see when I come back around.

I don't think I'll post a full review.

Listening to the audiobook.

I enjoyed this one, just not as much as the last one. I wish I loved it.
